PSAD Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Pennsylvania State Association of the Deaf
Purpose
The PSAD Scholarship is offered annually to qualified deaf and hard of hearing residents of Pennsylvania who plan to begin or advance a career centered on supporting and nurturing deaf and hard of hearing children. The award is intended to help recipients reach professional goals in fields such as early childhood education, public school teaching, social work, and health care — though other related career paths are also eligible.
Eligibility
- Must be deaf or hard of hearing and a resident of the State of Pennsylvania.
- High school seniors and undergraduate college students are eligible to apply.
- College applicants must have completed a minimum of 26 college credits.
- Applicants should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
Award details
- The scholarship amount is $1,000.
- Awards are made once a year and distributed in June.
- Scholarship checks are mailed directly to the recipient’s chosen college after the institution’s transcript has been received by the committee.
- Each year up to four scholarships are awarded: three to high school seniors and one to an undergraduate student.
Application requirements
Applicants must submit a completed application along with required supporting documentation, which includes forms, letters of reference and recommendations. Submissions should demonstrate the applicant’s commitment to completing their education and to pursuing a career serving deaf and hard of hearing children. Community service, extracurricular activities, and other personal interests will be considered in the evaluation.
Selection process and confidentiality
All applications are treated confidentially. The Scholarship Committee evaluates submissions (including GPA and credit requirements) and forwards their recommendations to the PSAD Board of Managers, who make the final funding decisions.
Renewal/Repeat applications
Applicants may reapply annually for up to four years.
