Debbie Rice Memorial Scholarship

Introduction
The Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology (ALET) is accepting applications from graduating high school seniors for the 2026 ALET Debbie Rice Memorial Scholarship. One $10,000 scholarship will be awarded.
Eligibility
- Must be a senior enrolled in an accredited Alabama high school.
- The technology director for the student’s school system must be a current ALET member as of September 30, 2025. (A list of qualifying systems is provided in the application packet.)
- Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA: 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- Minimum ACT score: 17.
- Application must include the endorsement/signature of the student’s guidance counselor or principal, confirming the student is eligible to apply.
- The student must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school that has a physical campus located in Alabama. Fully online institutions are not eligible.
- The student should intend to pursue a degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technology field.
- Applicants must demonstrate a record of volunteer service and be involved in school or community extracurricular activities.
How to Apply
- Carefully follow the required materials checklist included in the packet. Prepare all forms and supporting documents before assembling your packet.
- The completed application packet must be mailed (U.S. Postal Service or other carrier) and postmarked by December 5, 2025. Packets arriving after that date will not be considered.
- All required items listed in the checklist must be included in the mailed packet unless otherwise noted. Letters of recommendation and other supporting documents should be placed inside the packet; letters may not be submitted by email.
- Once ALET receives your packet, you may not add materials. The only exception is high school transcripts, which may be sent separately but must still be postmarked or emailed by December 5, 2025.
Required Documents (make sure each item meets the checklist’s specific formatting/instruction requirements)
- Completed application form.
- Signed Statement of Accuracy and Conditions.
- Resume (follow the resume requirements in the checklist).
- Essay(s) as specified in the checklist. Pay close attention to instructions and question order — failure to follow directions may reduce points.
- Two letters of recommendation:
- Must be signed and include the author’s printed name, phone number, mailing address, and email address.
- One letter must come from the student’s high school principal and/or counselor.
- Recommendation letters cannot be submitted via email and must be included in the mailed packet.
- High school transcript:
- May be an unofficial copy provided by the school.
- Transcripts can be included inside the mailed packet or emailed directly from the school.
- If sent separately by mail or email, transcripts must be postmarked or emailed by December 5, 2025.
- Report card from the first grading period of the current school year (a copy is acceptable).
- ACT score report, if the ACT score is not listed on the transcript.

Incomplete application packets will not be reviewed. Review the checklist carefully and ensure every required document is included or submitted by the stated deadline.
