Allwork Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Center for Architecture
Introduction
This merit-based scholarship awards architecture students who demonstrate both outstanding academic performance and financial need. Applicants must be officially nominated by the dean or chair of the architecture school where they are currently enrolled to be eligible to apply.
Award
- Multiple scholarships of up to $7,500 each are available.
- Selected recipients may receive an Honor(s) award of up to $10,000.
Purpose
The grant is intended to help students pursuing their first professional architecture degree at a NAAB‑accredited school in New York State who show strong academics and documented financial need. Portfolios should present three projects and will be evaluated on:
- Concept: a clear, focused investigative trajectory
- Artistry: demonstrated sensitivity and aesthetic refinement
- Skill: high technical and design aptitude
Eligibility
- Applicants must be pursuing their first architecture degree at a NAAB‑accredited program located in the State of New York.
- Each school’s dean or chair may nominate up to two students from their institution.
- Nominees should exhibit a high academic record and verified financial need; financial need will be determined according to the nominating school’s Financial Aid Officer guidelines.
- Applicants do not need to be U.S. citizens.
- Students may not be nominated for both the Allwork scholarship and the Center for Architecture Design scholarship.
- Students in their final year of study are ineligible.
- Graduate students in an M.Arch program at a NAAB‑accredited New York school may apply if their undergraduate degree is in a discipline other than architecture. Current M.Arch students who hold a four‑year degree in architectural studies or other non‑accredited pre‑architecture programs are also welcome to apply.
Application components
All materials must be submitted electronically. A complete submission includes:
1. Online application form (including the cover page).
2. Portfolio: one PDF containing three student projects. Collaborative projects may be submitted only if the applicant’s role is clearly identified; do not submit slides.
3. Two letters of recommendation, signed and on letterhead:
- One must be written by and signed by the nominating dean or chair (this serves as the official nomination).
- One must be from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s work.
- Optional: applicants may provide up to two additional academic or professional references (from an educator and/or architect) attesting to academic achievement or professional promise in academic or office environments.
- If a recommender prefers to email their letter directly, they may send it to scholarships@centerforarchitecture.org. In that case, upload a document in the application naming the recommender and providing their contact details and stating they will send the letter via email. The emailed letter must meet the same deadline as the rest of the application.
File naming and formatting
- Portfolio file should be named: Allwork Portfolio Applicant’s Last Name
- Recommendation files should be named: Allwork Recommendation Applicant’s Last Name
- All recommendation letters must be on letterhead and contain a signature.
Other notes
- There is no entry fee.
- All parts of the submission (application, portfolio, and recommendation letters) must be uploaded electronically.
- Applicants will be notified of decisions approximately six weeks after the application deadline.
