Introduction
The George M. Pullman Educational Foundation Scholarship supports students from across Cook County who demonstrate academic promise, community involvement, and the determination to overcome obstacles. Pullman Scholars are hardworking, ambitious, and driven to create positive change. This scholarship helps qualified recipients earn a bachelor’s degree without taking on crippling debt by providing financial support and ongoing guidance.
Who We Seek
Pullman Scholars are opportunity-seekers and self-starters from the north, south, and west sides of Chicago as well as surrounding suburbs. They represent the region’s cultural diversity, face challenges with resilience, and understand that a college degree is central to their future success.
Scholarship Benefits
- Award of up to $10,000 per year for up to four years
- Continued mentoring and assistance from Pullman Foundation staff and access to the Pullman Scholar community during college and afterward
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for a George M. Pullman Educational Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a graduating high school senior
- Be a resident of Cook County, Illinois
- Intend to enroll full-time in the fall as a first-time undergraduate seeking a bachelor’s degree
- Plan to attend a U.S.-based, accredited bachelor’s degree-granting institution that participates in Title IV federal student aid
- Demonstrate significant financial need
- Maintain a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Be eligible for state and federal student aid and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident
- Not already be enrolled in college or hold any postsecondary degree (dual enrollment while a high school senior is allowed)
How to Apply
Applicants must:
- Complete and submit the online application, which includes three essays and questions about your cumulative unweighted GPA, family income, high school activities, courses taken, and related information
- Arrange for two recommendation forms to be submitted by people who can attest to your strengths, accomplishments, and personal growth (for example: a teacher, mentor, guidance counselor, employer, or supervisor)
- Access the 2026 application via the link below. Both the application and the two recommendation forms must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026.
