Roy G. Walters Memorial Scholarship

Intro
This award honors students from Kalamazoo County who have been active in athletics and community service. It was created to financially support students pursuing engineering studies who reflect the traits associated with “Shep”: insatiable curiosity, collaborative teamwork, an innovative mindset, and a dedication to learning, creating, and growing with others. Note: additional supporting materials are required with the application.

Who may apply
- Enrollment status: Full-time students only.
- Eligible programs: Associate (2-year), Bachelor’s (4-year), and Graduate degree programs.
- Eligible student types: Current undergraduates, current graduate students, and high school seniors.
- Residency/education requirement: Must live in Kalamazoo County or Van Buren County, or be graduating from (or have graduated from) a high school located in Kalamazoo County or Van Buren County.
- Academic requirement: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Financial requirement: Demonstrated financial need.
- Field of study: Must be planning to enroll in, or already enrolled in, an engineering program.
- Personal qualities: Applicants should show evidence of relentless curiosity, a collaborative spirit, a drive to innovate, and a commitment to learning and growing alongside others.

Award use and payment
KZCF scholarship funds can be used for any items included in your school’s Cost of Attendance (COA) — for example, tuition and fees, room and board, transportation, food, health insurance, etc. COA varies by institution; check your school’s published COA or contact the financial aid office for details.

Payment process
Scholarship funds are issued directly to the school. KZCF will send one payment covering the full academic year and request that the institution divide it evenly between the fall and spring terms. If you prefer a different distribution, indicate that preference on your acceptance form after you are awarded the scholarship.
